    Text

Every day, we rely on the compassionate service and steady commitment of our Nation’s corps of nursing professionals. On National Nurses Day, we pay special tribute to these highly skilled men and women for their steadfast dedication to the health and well-being of their fellow citizens.

As our Nation’s largest healthcare profession, an estimated 5 million nurses serve communities nationwide in hospitals, clinics, schools, public health departments, and long-term care facilities. They stand beside us in our most vulnerable and meaningful moments, from the joy and wonder of the first breath of life to the quiet sorrow of the last. Whether in emergencies, routine visits, or the long course of illness and recovery, patients and their families are lifted by the expertise, compassion, and steady reassurance of these caregivers. In every circumstance, America’s nurses tend to what matters most in life—safeguarding our health and protecting the well-being of those we love with unmatched resolve.

Despite long work hours, demanding schedules, and stressful life-and-death circumstances, nurses rise to every challenge with skill, precision, and pride, keeping their patients’ needs foremost in heart and mind. That dedication deserves to be met in kind, which is why my Administration is committed to standing behind our Nation’s nurses every day. Through the Working Families Tax Cuts Act and its elimination of taxes on overtime pay, we are helping nurses keep more of what they earn and build the financial security they have long deserved.

Nursing is a noble calling, a vocation worthy of our gratitude, respect, and admiration. On National Nurses Day, the First Lady joins me in honoring America’s nurses, whose steady hands and generous hearts sustain the health of our people and strengthen the vitality of our great Nation.
